My voice-over ritual. Whats yours?

I find myself behind the mic several times into the a.m. running voice-over and I started thinking what I do to keep motivated because everyone hits a point where you hit a wall and you give yourself “that pep talk”. Then I started to think, everyone must have some ritual, security blanket, or a special “tick” to keep them motivated when their behind the mic or even at their day job if they have one, right? I started looking at what I do daily and saw myself with my own rituals…

Voiceover Demos:Choosing the Right Copy For YOU

Choosing and arranging scripts/copy is perhaps the most essential aspect in completing a voiceover demo. Regardless of the genre, the copy allows the voice talent and the listener the access to discover the abilities of the artist. Correct choices create a clear vision of marketability for the voice talent. Incorrect choices force the talent into an ongoing world of confusion and jeprodize the marketability of the voiceover brand.I've created an informative video on this , click here to…

The Disturbing Voice Disaperance

Early yesterday morning I discovered my voice had checked out. Speaking was no longer possible.

Concerned, I opened my mouth and the attempt to say what was in my head, “Hey, what’s going on here?” was futile. I laid there silent. My heart was making up for the lack of sound with hard…

The Delicious Taste of Frog

What could be worse than eating a frog? Seems the rest of the day would be pretty downhill after that. My frogs will look different from yours but I swallowed a few this past week.

My time for eating the frog is right after I finish processing my e-mail. I take 30-minutes and do everything I can to complete the task.

10 Ways to Keep Your Clients from Falling Through the Cracks

Do your business skills keep your clients form shopping elsewhere for their next voiceover need? Have you done the due diligence to develop your client relationships? Do you occasionally correspond with your clients to remind them about your services?

Brrrr...getting that chill.

Fall.  A picturesque time here in the northeast; the leaves will be changing, the temperatures are falling and that means it's time for the cold and flu season.  Being in the voiceover business- this is my most nervous time of the year because, when I get a cold, the first thing that gets affected is my voice:  Sore throat, hoarseness, coughing, etc... I'm pretty sure you don't want your audio production sounding like theres a frog…

How Voiceover Success is Like a TACO

How Voiceover Success is Like a TACO

Everybody likes tacos....some of us a little too much, (just ask my doctor!) Whether loaded with beef, chicken, cheese, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, or other healthy things, a good taco can turn a bad day around.

What does this have to do with voiceovers, you might already…

A Standard in Which to be Recognized

Could being a Certified Voiceover Talent help to improve your game? Would talent seekers understand what it meant to use certified talent?

This could help talent seekers to weed out the crud and deal specifically with professionals who are qualified. No more wasted time with auditions that were recorded with a laptop microphone in the kitchen while dogs bark and kids scream in the background.

I take a quick look at this and share my opinions.…

Go Paperless with Foxit PDF

When I was preparing to open the door of my voice-over business, I made a list of all the office goodies I needed. One of the items was a printer, and I had my mind set on a multifunction unit. I thought having print/fax/scan capabilities in one easy to use box would be the most efficient way to go. I made the purchase and printed off into the sunset.…
